“Praise be to God, thy heart is engaged in the commemoration
of God, thy soul is gladdened by the glad things of God
and thou art adsorbed in prayer.
The state of prayer is the best of conditions…”

— ‘ABDU’L-BAHÁ

DEVOTIONAL GATHERINGS

Devotional meetings spring up naturally in a community where a conversation about the spiritual dimension of human existence is growing. In diverse settings, Bahá’ís and their friends and families unite with one another in prayer. There are no rituals; no one individual has any special role. Meetings consist largely of reading prayers and passages from the Bahá’í sacred texts in an informal yet respectful atmosphere. A spirit of communal worship is generated by these simple gatherings, and this spirit begins to permeate the community’s collective endeavors.

Uplifting the Human Spirit

Simple Baha’i devotionals have no rites, rituals, or formality, and no one individual has any distinct role. These humble gatherings generate a spirit of unity and communal worship, and this spirit begins to infuse the community with harmony and union, permeating collective endeavors with empowerment.

Musical Devotionals

Devotional gatherings are a chance for us to learn how to create an uplifting, spiritual atmosphere. This often involves music and the arts. The key is to help clear our minds from the anxieties of our daily lives and to meditate on our higher purpose.

Respectful Atmosphere

All over the world, Bahá'ís and their friends, co-workers and neighbors are inviting people to devotional gatherings. The purpose is to create a space for sharing things that uplift the human spirit -- things like music, poetry, prayer, song, stories, or even just thoughts and reflections -- anything that we find inspirational.

Community’s Collective Endeavors

Most importantly, these devotionals can be held by anyone, either by hosting one in your own home or helping to host a gathering elsewhere. The Bahá’í teachings seek to empower each of us to create an uplifting and spiritual atmosphere in our own communities.
